Thai F-16 fighter jets flown near Myanmar border as Burmese military intensfies attacks on rebel forces
Thai F-16 fighter jets were flown near the Myanmar border as the Burmese government intensified attacks on rebel forces in the region.
Footage shows the aircraft thundering across the sky as seen from Mae Sot district in Tak province on April 20 while a child was crying in the background.
It came after the Burmese military reportedly launched airstrikes four times against the Karen Army's base in Myawaddy province, which was near the border using supersonic fighter MiG-29 jets where two rebels were killed and injured dozens.
In response, the Fa-16 from Nakhon Sawan province were dispatched to bordering districts even though the MiG-29 aircraft did not cross into Thai airspace.
Fighting between the armed militias and the Burmese military has intensified amid the political turmoil in Myanmar caused by the ousting of former leader Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021.
Several months of protests erupted across Myanmar, also known as Burma, but hundreds of civilians were killed amid forceful crackdowns. The army has since regained control through ongoing intimidation and arrests but the country remains divided and rebel groups clash regularly with state soldiers.
