'Drunk-driving' Norwegian tourist nearly tears off local's arm after crashing into her with his Ducati
An allegedly drunk-driving Norwegian tourist nearly tore off a local's arm after crashing into her with his Ducati.
Thomas Bang, 49, mounted his motorbike and hit the streets after allegedly partying with friends in Chonburi province, Thailand on April 17 a little past 8 pm.
But the ex-pat smashed into a female rider's scooter after failing to slow down at a junction.
CCTV footage shows a rider making a turn with her Honda Click before Thomas' bike slammed into her. The Norwegian man drifted 50ft away from the scooter while the woman fell onto the pavement clutching her arm.
A paramedic said Thomas appeared drunk while they applied first aid to him. He said: ‘He was shouting loudly at us and insulting the rescue team. He looked drunk.'
Thomas reportedly spat on the rescuers while they treated his wounds before being sent to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the female rider Kodchakorn Khetkuntod, 39, sustained a severe wound on her arm, which almost had to be amputated if the rescuers had not arrived on time.
Her boyfriend Songkrod Himachart said: ‘She was only going to the convenience store that night. We were informed a few hours later that she was at the hospital. I was so shocked after finding out about her condition.'
While Kodchakorn's arm had been treated, Songkrod said the doctors had not yet confirmed if they could fully save her arm.
He said: ‘I am concerned that the case will not proceed. The doctor can not confirm if her arm will fully recover as several tendons were cut.'
Songkrod said he retrieved copies of the CCTV and reported to the Nongprue Police Station while requesting the hospital to perform an alcohol level test on the rider.
He said: ‘He should be punished for what he did to my girlfriend and leave our country.'
Police said that investigations on the incident are ongoing.
