San Francisco police made several narcotics-related arrests on April 23 in a part of the city dubbed "ground zero" for the city's drug overdose crisis.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the drug crisis in the Tenderloin neighborhood - seen in this eyewitness footage - is driven by the widespread availability of fentanyl. In the first three months of 2023, 200 people died of accidental drug overdoses, a roughly 40 percent increase from the number of deaths during the same period last year, the paper reported.

"I took a walk to 7th and Mission. Upon arriving @SFPDTenderloin conducted narcotics arrests. This is one of multiple I seen throughout the day in other various locations," the filmer tweeted. Police were arresting those selling the drugs, he added.

San Francisco Police Department Tenderloin Station tweeted on April 23: "During one of the several arrests made by TL plainclothes on 4/22/23, they seized 166.4 grams of fentanyl, a loaded firearm and several other narcotics from the arrested subject."
