A plucky young farmer's daughter aged just nine stepped in to help a ewe which was struggling with a 'really difficult' breech birth.

Marli Goff was filmed with an arm deep inside a ewe that was struggling after a lamb's large head got stuck as it was giving birth.

Marli's mum Ellie Goff, 43, stumbled upon the ewe in labour during her morning farm checks but had no gloves on her to cover a finger injury and was vulnerable to infection.

Marli, who has grown up on the Wellies-On Farm in Abberton, Essex, didn't hesitate before jumping to help her mum and the ewe.

Ellie, a mum of three who established Wellies-On Farm 18 years ago, said: "Marli has assisted with lambing before, but this was the first really difficult birth she’d done."

"She’s helped with a breech delivery before, but it was relatively straightforward one and this lamb was very stuck."

"She was more than delighted she needed to be the one to do it instead of mum and gladly stepped in and assisted."

According to Ellie, Marli loves to get involved with everything on the farm and had joined her on her morning rounds that morning when they discovered the ewe in labour.

Ellie had suffered an injury to her finger from a vegetable chopper and had no gloves to start assisting with the birth.

This is when Marli stepped up to the challenge.

In the impressive video the young girl finds the lambs head, rights the lamb's position and then guide's it out feet first.

She then gives the lamb aftercare before showing it to the mum, Smudge.

Marli decided to name the lamb Misty, and both lamb and ewe are now thriving.

Marli already had a pet sheep of her own, Mary, who she adores taking care of.

Ellie said: "She's definitely eager to do more. She's my little shepherdess. She lives and breathes to be with the animals."

Ellie established the Wellies-On therapeutic farm to offer support to people who could benefit with the company of animals and nature.

The ex-teacher works with people with learning difficulties, mental health conditions as well as those struggling with homelessness and a women's shelter.

The farm works with the University of Essex and occupational therapy students to support interactions with the service users and the flock of sheep, goats, chickens as well as other furry creatures.
