Residents help hundreds of tourist cars return to the main road after getting lost due to wrongly following an online map guide in Indonesia.

Footage filmed in Bukittinggi City, West Sumatra Province on April 27, shows tourists were forced to turn around after entering the wrong way into a narrow road that could only be passed by motorbikes and on foot.

According to the driver, they were heading to a tourist attraction, then when they wanted to avoid traffic jams on the main road, they asked for help on an online map showing an alternative route.

They allegedly strayed because they didn’t regulate the guides for the vehicles used.

Concerned locals took to the road to alert drivers, guiding them back to the main road.

A number of tourist areas in Indonesia this week experienced an increase in tourist arrivals celebrating Eid al-Fitr.

This year's holiday season was very busy after three previous holidays where people were prohibited from gathering because it was still a pandemic.
