Diners leapt onto their chairs as a monitor lizard ventured through a restaurant in Padang, Indonesia.

Footage captured by Mona Sisca on April 28 shows the reptile making its way underneath a table and chairs.

Staff at Suaso, a restaurant located in the Agus Salim Padang Sports Center Area, are seen watching on as the lizard disrupted diners.

Sisca, the filmer, told Newsflare: "When I saw the monitor lizard, I was very surprised because this was the first time seeing the beast up close, and it was in the room.

"Usually monitor lizards are only seen crossing the bushes. Because I felt it was rare, then the response immediately recorded it. The other comrades in the room were also very surprised."

The lizard eventually left the restaurant and ran into a ditch.

A monitor lizard with a length of more than one meter appeared in a restaurant, Friday 28 April 2023. He came from outside the restaurant and had time to go around the room. The lizard walked slowly on the floor and had time to hide under a chair.
The appearance of the monitor lizard surprised restaurant visitors who were enjoying food at an event.
Even though they were surprised, a number of visitors also ventured closer and took photos and videos of these animals. Then the monitor lizard came out of the restaurant and ran into a ditch and disappeared.
