Officials at the Chennai International Airport in India arrested a woman who arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with checked baggage carrying 22 snakes and one chameleon on April 28.

The unique case of customs seizure included two eight-foot-long, fully-grown ball pythons, among other species.

"On 28.04.23, a female pax who arrived from Kuala Lumpur by Flight No. AK13 was intercepted by Customs. On examination of her checked-in baggage, 22 Snakes of various species and a Chameleon were found & seized under the Customs Act, 1962 r/w Wildlife Protection act, 1972," tweeted Chennai Customs.

In a unique case of custom seizure, custom officials at Chennai airport seized 22 snakes which includes two eight foot long fully grown ball pythons and chameleon from a female pasenger whi arrrived from kuala Lumpur on Friday.
According to custom department pree release the women hid the snakes in her checked in baggage. She was intercepted upon arrival based on specific information. Snakes were put in a separate different sizes boxes in a suitcase.
Some of the other snakes which were seized are green corn snakes, Mexican black kingsnakes, green anacondas and a chameleon. Officials tells that the animals were sent back to Malaysia in the same flight in which it was smuggled in.
