A proud indigenous tribesman wore traditional garments to take his diploma at his graduation ceremony.

Footage shows Dexter Santos Valenton, 23, walking to the stage with his mother wearing a red underclothing during the event in Pampanga province on March 22.

He became the first person from his region, where people are known as the Aeta tribe, to pass the Criminology board exam and hopes to become a cop.

In an interview with local media, he said: ‘I am elated. My only goal was to pass, but I am being praised for bringing honour to the Aeta.'

He added he finished his early education walking hours to school from his home in the remote hills to reach the town.

Now, Dexter hopes to find a job and help his family. He said: ‘I will apply at once. I will help my family and the tribe.'

The Aetas are indigenous people living in the vast mountains of the central part of mainland Luzon in the Philippines.
