Rare concorde plane seen parked at Heathrow Airport in London
Footage shows an iconic Concorde plane resting at Heathrow Airport in London - a reminder of supersonic travel history.
The aircraft, registration G-BOAB, is not open to the public to visit but can be seen by departing passengers. It is not in service.
The Concorde was a supersonic passenger jet that was in service from 1976 to 2003. It was jointly developed and manufactured by British Aerospace (BAe) and Aérospatiale of France under an Anglo-French treaty. The aircraft had a maximum speed of over twice the speed of sound, Mach 2.04 (around 1,354 mph or 2,180 km/h) and could carry up to 100 passengers.
The Concorde was known for its distinctive droop-nose design, which was used to improve visibility for pilots during takeoff and landing. It was also equipped with a sophisticated delta-wing design, which helped it achieve supersonic speeds while minimizing drag.
Despite its impressive speed and technological advancements, the Concorde had a relatively short lifespan in commercial service due to its high operational costs and a series of high-profile accidents. However, it remains a beloved icon of aviation history and a symbol of the possibilities of human achievement in the field of aerospace engineering.
