Drunk British tourist arrested over attack on Australian pensioner at strip club in Pattaya, Thailand
A drunk British tourist has been arrested for allegedly attacking an Australian pensioner in Thai tourist city Pattaya on Tuesday evening.
The naked Englishman was accused of beating Aussie holidaymaker Josef Slezak, 77, with a beer bottle at the Tahitian Queen pole-dancing pub on April 2 evening.
A bystander said the unnamed British man had been drinking before suddenly removing his clothes and climbing onto the stage with chrome poles normally used by strippers.
Concerned onlookers tried to cover him up, but this allegedly angered the suspect, who grabbed a beer bottle and whacked the Australian tourist on the head.
The assault left Josef with a busted left eyebrow and blood running down his face as bar staff and customers tried to control the rampaging Brit.
Footage shows the Brit being pinned to the ground by a barman as police handcuff him. He was heard shouting 'you should f***ing know, boys. This is what you want to do. Bring those other boys in here and see what happens.'
The man, who has not been named yet as he had no passport with him, was then carried out like a hog-tied pig and slid into a waiting police pickup truck, having been given shorts and a t-shirt to wear.
Paramedics later took the injured pensioner to the hospital. Cops have detained the alleged attacker at the police station for questioning.
Speaking today, Police Captain Puttarag Sonkamharn, who is handling the case, said: 'The suspect was drunk so we left him in the cell until he is sober. He was making a lot of noise. When we're sure he is sober, we'll take him to be checked at the hospital and then interview him.
'He hasn't been talking any sense, so we think he was just acting crazy because he was drunk. We'll interview everyone involved to understand exactly what happened.'
Military top brass from Bangkok have been trying for several years to clean up Pattaya, dubbed the 'sex capital' of the world and a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah, as they battle to kick out badly behaving Brits and Aussies, and turn the region into a family-friendly resort to tap into lucrative family markets in China, India and Russia.
However, they face an uphill struggle against its entrenched 24-hour sex industry and endemic corruption that allows it to continue unabated.
The bars - many of which are run by British ex-pats and function as shop windows for cheap prostitutes - along with massage parlours and street workers are also a lucrative part of the tourism industry, which before the pandemic accounted for 21 percent of Thailand's annual GDP, generating 1.8 trillion baht (52.3 billion USD) in revenue.
