Wild elephant damages fences rampaging through homes in Malaysia
A wild elephant sparked panic among residents when it crashed through gates and fences while rampaging inside a residential area in Malaysia.
CCTV footage shows the jumbo ramming through the gate of a house in the Sri Lambak community of Kluang town, Johor early morning on April 28.
The animal destroyed the fence with ease and wandered through the patio of resident homeowner Muniammah, 62, with a small calf following after it.
Terrified Muniammah said: 'The most recent elephant visits happened two days in a row, on Thursday and Friday. They came at five in the morning on Friday and damaged the fence and windows.
'The fence had just been repaired. This is not the first attack. Before that, the wild elephants had already damaged the gate.
'I was scared to see the elephant right there in my home so I panicked and didn't know what to do. My pet dog also looked scared.'
She urged local authorities to take action as residents fear the elephants will continue encroaching into homes.
Aminuddin Ja, Director of the Johor Wildlife Protection and National Park Service, said the department has been informed of the incident and were monitoring the elephant herd.
He said: 'We will continue to observe these elephants, and these wild animals should not be caught or shot at will because they might react unexpectedly, including going berserk.'
He said the tracking operation will take around two weeks before the elephants could be transferred to another area far from the settlement.
