Gem collectors attended a precious stones fair in Thailand amid a surge in jewel exports from the Southeast Asian country.

More than 400 companies from 15 countries took part in the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok.

Leading accessory and jewellery companies from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Italy, UAE, India, the US, Sri Lanka, Poland, and Turkey exhibited their products, with sparkling diamonds, emeralds, amethysts, and other gem accessories on display at stalls.

The fair provided a platform for buyers to connect with retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, and designers from Southeast Asia.

The event was organised by Informa Markets Jewellery and ran from April 26 to 29. It comes as luxury gem and jewellery exports in Thailand were forecasted to grow by 10% this year, according to the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand.

Institute Director Sumed Prasongphongchai said there is increased demand for high-end jewellery, especially gemstone jewellery.
