Rescuers cut open a steel manhole cover to save a trapped kitten.

The wildlife team were called to the scene to help locate a crying feline that the residents said they had been hearing for days in Chonburi province, Thailand on April 20.

But the volunteers found the creature was under the sewers concealed by thick metal.

They tried to force it off by tying a chain on it to a truck but it was too sturdy so they used a power tool instead.

Footage shows the rescuers using a disc grinder to create an opening on the manhole cover.

One of the rescue team members Khun Wuth Praphimphan said: ‘The cat's head could not fit into the opening . We tried lifting it up but it was too heavy and sealed into the concrete.'

After almost an hour of operation, the kitten was pulled out by one of the rescuers who reached his arm down into the hole.

The kitten was unhurt and adopted by one of the concerned residents.
