Drone footage shows awesome artificial island shaped like Thailand
Drone footage shows an awesome artificial island shaped like the land mass of Thailand.
The creation sits in the middle of a man-made lake in Trang province in southern Thailand and was built back in 1989.
Former Bangrak council chief Chalat Surinrat made the island after ordering the 27.6-acre reservoir to be dug near the Trang River, spending some 4.24 million THB ($125,000) for the project.
The construction was finished on April 30 the following year, with the Thailand-shaped island serving as a water pumping station for nearby villages.
Resident Suwit Manaso, 62, said the area was not a known tourist destination and was previously only seen by passengers flying over the Ban Tha Chin locality.
After the surrounding area was renovated, the island's unique shape could be better seen with drones, he said.
