A fuel tanker was engulfed in a fire that was 'triggered by a faulty brake system' in Thailand.

The 22-wheeler was transporting 40,000 litres of fuel from Chonburi province to a customer in Laos when it burst into flames along the Mittraphap Road in Nakhon Ratchasima on May 3.

Dozens of firetrucks were sent to extinguish the blaze, which took more than two hours to control.

Driver Suwan Khanaming said he was delivering the fuel to the Lao PDR when the brakes were allegedly jammed, causing sparks near the tanker's rear wheels that ignited the fuel.

He is unharmed as he jumped from his seat before the fire could spread to the cabin.

Authorities said they are investigating the cause of the fire.
