Passenger on high-speed train in China sparks controversy for eating smelling durian fruit
Passengers on a high-speed train in eastern China were left disgusted after a woman was caught on camera "pigging out" on durian fruit.
The video was filmed in the city of Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province on May 6.
The notorious fruit, known for its pungent odour, caused fellow passengers to complain and record the incident.
But is it actually allowed to bring durian fruit on board high-speed trains? The National Railway Customer Service Center confirmed that durian is permitted as long as it is well-sealed to prevent any odour from seeping out.
However, the fruit cannot be consumed on the train, and the weight limit for both luggage and durian combined cannot exceed 20kg.
On Weibo, a microblogging platform similar to Twitter, a user expressed their opinion, stating, "Although I also enjoy eating durian, it is not appropriate to consume it in public without consideration for others."
The video was provided by local media with permission.
