A group of motorists fled for their lives after an avalanche struck a highway in Nyingchi, Tibet on May 8.

The video shows several motorists leaving their vehicles and sprinting away to avoid the cascading snow rolling down the mountain.

Reports indicate that Mr Wu and his friends were on a road trip from Pome County to Motuo County when they encountered the avalanche while stopping to take some photos.

Inexperienced with the phenomenon, the drivers quickly fled their vehicles for safety. Fortunately, the snowfall was heavy but not strong enough to block the road or cause any harm to people or vehicles.

After the close call, Mr Wu and his companions wisely decided to turn back instead of continuing on their journey.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
