Residents in Patna, Bihar, battled to stay cool as temperatures in the city reached over 40 degrees Celsius on May 10.

Locals were seen showering in the streets, sheltering under parasols, and using scarves to cover their heads.

India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the heatwave currently gripping the northern Indian state of Bihar.

People living in the city of Patna, in the state of Bihar, in Northern India, were trying to cool themselves with any available medium, as temperatures reached 42°C , on Wednesday.

Citizens were seen putting their heads under taps and drinking plenty of water. Other tried to cover themselves with scarves and umbrellas to avoid getting burned by the sun.

Northern India is getting hit by a second heat wave within a month, with temperatures in some areas climbing as high as 45°C.
