US expat arrested after Filipino girlfriend's body found inside plastic water drum
An American national has been arrested for allegedly murdering his Filipino girlfriend and hiding her body inside a plastic drum.
William Thomas Worth, 71, was living with Mila Loslos, 48, at her home in Bacoor City, Cavite province in the Philippines when the couple had an argument reportedly sparked by Mila's supposed deception of the American expat.
She allegedly hid that she was married and already had children while going out with William. When he found out, he went into a rage and allegedly strangled her to death.
Bacoor City police officers said they received a report from Mila's son Nino, 21, who said his mum could not be reached for several days.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Ruther Saquilayan, Bacoor City Police Chief, said: 'It was reported by the son that his mother had been missing since May 5.
'After he filed the report, he went to the house where the couple were living. When he entered the house, he noticed a strange smell coming from inside.'
During Nino's visit, William had denied knowing Mila's whereabouts.
However, the 'foul stench' roused the young man's suspicion, so he returned to the cops and a search of the house was conducted on May 9.
Cops said William himself led them to the basement cupboard where he was keeping Mila's body. Scattered next to the blue drum were dozens of mothballs to conceal the odour of decay.
They opened the container and found the missing girlfriend's body wrapped in duct tape and a black garbage bag.
Investigators also noted the injuries on William's arm which they believe to be an indication of a struggle.
William was arrested on suspicion of murder and remanded in police custody.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Ruther said: 'The American said he thought the woman was single and had no family. He said he gave her one million pesos, but then he found out that she had children and a husband.
'Based on the suspect's revelation, they had an argument. The victim was said to have hit her head when she slipped, and then he strangled her.
'After that, out of fear, he wrapped her in a garbage bag and duct tape.'
Police said a post-mortem examination will be done to determine the cause of death.
He said they are pushing for William will be charged with murder.
