A brave cook dragged a large monitor lizard that was rampaging through a restaurant.

The 5ft-long reptile entered from the back kitchen, interrupting the crew from preparing the dishes in Phetchaburi province, Thailand on April 24.

While some workers avoided the Godzilla-like intruder, one quickly pulled the animal by its tail.

Footage shows the cook with an apron tugging the creature along the dining area and out of the restaurant.

The creature seemingly attempted to return inside but another worker secured it until the rescuers arrived to retrieve it.

Customer Chatmongkol said: ‘We stopped by for lunch on the roadside restaurant. The employees were very good and handled the monitor lizard well.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
