Protesters spray UK Foreign Office building with blood-red paint on 'Nakba' 75th anniversary
Protesters sprayed the walls and entrance of the UK's Foreign Office in Westminster, London in blood-red paint on Monday, May 15, the 75th anniversary of the flight of 700,000 Palestinians from what is now Israel known as the "Nakba" or "catastrophe."
"Palestine Action spray Britain’s Foreign Office with blood-red paint, to commemorate 75 years since the ethnic cleansing of Palestine began #Nakba75," the group tweeted on Monday morning. "Britain not only signed away the land of Palestine in 1917 and colonised it since, they armed and training Zionist militia to ethnically cleanse over 750,000 Palestinians. The Nakba never ended and neither did British complicity."
The UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Nakba at the UN's Headquarters in New York on Monday.
"For the first time in the history of the UN, this anniversary will be commemorated pursuant to the mandate by the General Assembly (A/RES/77/23 of 30 November 2022)," the UN said in a statement.
The US and Israel voted against the resolution.
