A kind couple cut a hole in their wall to save a trapped bat that fell through the roof.

Moey Suwinan said they had heard a strange scratching noise inside their home, like something was trying to get out in Ubon Ratchathani province, Thailand on May 9.

As their dogs kept lingering around the area, the residents decided to probe until they realised the nocturnal creature was trapped inside.

Footage shows Moey's boyfriend poking through the hole with pliers. When the opening was big enough, he inserted a wire inside to pull the creature, which turned out to be a bat.

Moey said: ‘The sound was very creepy, like a crying baby. We thought it was a kitten or a rat.

‘We decided to have a look because we couldn't just leave the creature trapped there until it dies. That would be cruel.'

The bat was given water and fed before being released into the property's backyard.
