A huge swarm of bees has forced Restormel Castle, Cornwall, to close on Monday (May 15).

English Heritage, who run the castle on behalf of the Duchy of Cornwall, posted an announcement online saying it had a "very high level of bee activity" in the area.

Footage from April 24 shows the exterior of the circular castle that was built in the 13th century.

Huge clouds of bees have terrified many in the areas of Fowey and Lostwithiel. English Heritage who run Restormel castle on behalf of the Duchy of Cornwall are forced to post an announcement online explaining the necessity due to "High Bee activity" in the area. The possibly Norman Castle passed into the hands of The First Duke of Cornwall, Edward the Black prince in the 14th century. After a chequered history and military action during the English civil war the Castle is now operated by the conservation body English Heritage although still the property of the Current Prince of Wales William.
