Lisa Bosman and her family had an unforgettable ape encounter during their visit to Monkeyland in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa and she was lucky enough to catch the moment on camera.

The encounter featured the family trying to cross a rope bridge when they spotted the energetic ape approaching them from the opposite direction.

The gibbon keeps swinging on the rope as she makes her way across the bridge, and eventually goes over the heads of the tourists, who do their best not to get in her way by ducking.

"This gibbon ape came swinging over our family whilst crossing the bridge," Lisa said. "We actually learned that she lost her partner last year and was very sad when we previously visited. This year, she was feeling much better."

On its website, Monkeyland describes itself as "the world’s first free-roaming multi-species primate sanctuary."

It adds: "Over the course of our tours – which we call 'monkey safaris' - you’ll be able to see over 550 primates of various species – Capuchin Monkeys, Ring-tailed and Black-and-white Ruffed Lemurs, Gibbons and Howler Monkeys, to name a few.

"The 128-metre suspension bridge, which runs through the forest canopy, gives you the chance to see these primates from another perspective."
