A man was intercepted and arrested after 14 gold bars were seized from him by the Customs Air Intelligence team in southern India's Telangana.

This incident occurred at Hyderabad Customs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on May 14.

Visuals showed an official ripping open the covering of an emergency light battery into which the gold was concealed. He ripped open the black layer of the battery to reveal the gold bars, which he then kept on a table nearby. The official used a screwdriver and a pair of pliers to remove the outer covering of the battery to find the gold bars inside.

According to a report, there were a total of 24-karat 14 gold bars, valued at more than Rs 67 lakh ($81479.30). The passenger had arrived from Riyadh via Bahrain with the smuggled gold when he was intercepted and his luggage checked. The customs officials seized the smuggled gold. The concerned male passenger was also arrested under the Indian Customs Act, 1962.

Earlier this year, a male passenger was intercepted at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for carrying gold paste in the form of capsules. The smuggled gold, it was learnt, was handed over to this man by an international transit passenger. The man with the gold capsules was arrested.
