A Ukrainian model was found brutally hacked to death with a saw at a luxury apartment by her British-based boyfriend - who allegedly used Google Translate to ask for help disposing of her body.

Alona Savchenko, 24, had checked into the Key Sathorn-Charoenraj condominium in Bangkok with her Polish partner Jan Jerzy Lagoda-Filippow, 25, on April 29. The Pole had an advertising business registered in Covent Garden, London, and Alona had previously done photoshoots for him.

The couple looked happy together in the hotel but security guards became suspicious when the Polish tourist was seen leaving in a hurry from the building with his luggage on Monday morning - his girlfriend conspicuously missing.

The taxi driver hired by Jan, Surachai Sabaibang, 56, to take him to a 'any casino' was shocked when he allegedly used the Google Translate app to ask for help cutting up Alona's body before offering 1,500 baht ($44) for the task.

Surachai called the hotel to tell them about the holidaymaker's erratic behaviour and his seemingly drunk appearance. CCTV shows how Jan was shaking uncontrollably.

Staff checked the couple's room on the 32nd floor and were horrified to find Alona's dismembered body on the bed.

The young woman's face was covered in blood and her left hand had been cut off at the wrist. Her head had also been partially severed with a deep slash from her neck to her left shoulder. Paramedics pulled up her top to reveal a stab wound on her chest above her breasts, which had scars from a recent enhancement surgery.

Police found a blood-splattered 2ft long saw bought from a nearby hardware store next to her corpse. They believe she had been dead for around a day before being discovered.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Pongpun Phonharn, from the Wat Phraya Krai district station, said: 'The victim arrived at the condo with her boyfriend on April 29, but he left without her at around noon on May 15.

'We learned that he had hired a taxi for 1,500 baht ($44) to take him to Sa Kaeo province. He was likely trying to cross the border to Cambodia.'

Officers contacted taxi driver Surachai for questioning following the grisly discovery.

The driver said: 'I picked up the suspicious passenger, who told me through Google Translate that he wanted to play at a casino. When he could not find a suitable place to play, he then asked me through the app to help dismember his girlfriend's body for 1,500 baht ($44).'

Disturbed by the alarming request, Surachai reportedly dropped Jan off at a hotel in Bangkok's Sathorn district before calling the condominium where he had stayed.

Cops later obtained CCTV footage of the couple together at the hotel just days before Jan was spotted leaving alone. They sent it to the immigration police.

With border officials on alert, the suspect was caught on Monday evening at the Aranyaprathet border checkpoint 135 miles away in Sa Kaeo province.

Jan was detained at the Wat Phraya Krai Police Station for interrogation while police informed the Polish Embassy of his arrest. Investigations are ongoing.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Pongpun Phonharn added: 'The suspect was very calm when he was arrested. It was about 4am this morning when he was caught.

'He drank coffee as normal in his cell and started exercising, like it was his normal morning routine. He did not say anything.

'We have contacted the Polish Embassy, and made arrangements for embassy officials to arrive later today.'
