A hapless chicken hit by a passing car was rescued after getting stuck in the bumper.

The red hen suddenly crossed the road after wandering off the fields in Maha Sarakham province, Thailand on April 5.

Shocked driver Phattarkan Phoojampa said she quickly pulled over to see if the bird was hurt.

But as she stepped out of the sedan she heard the scared clucking noise and found it caught between the grills of her front bumper.

Footage shows the hen desperately trying to free itself before Phattarkan pulled it out.

The driver said: ‘I was so afraid thinking I killed the poor chicken. But I heard it crying and was a bit relieved.'

The creature appeared fine as it dashed away from the road after being freed.

Phattakarn added: ‘I hope the bird can forgive me. As for my car, I took it to the mechanic to have it fixed.'
