Passenger's Head Trapped in Train Door in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
An incident involving a passenger getting trapped in a sliding train door at Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) has gained attention on social media. The incident occurred at YIA Station in Kapanewon Temon, Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on Tuesday (May 16, 2023) at around 11:00 AM local time.
A circulated video showed a passenger trapped with their head caught in the door.
In a written statement sent via WhatsApp, Franoto Wibowo, the Public Relations Manager of Daop VI Yogyakarta, stated, "The airport train passenger at YIA Station got their head caught in the closing train door."
Franoto explained that the incident took place on Airport Train YIA Number 7067 B, which was traveling between Tugu Station and YIA Station on Tuesday afternoon.
Both passengers and staff quickly rushed to assist. Shortly after, the door was opened, and the passenger was freed from the sliding door's grip. The passenger immediately continued their journey.
The individual underwent a medical examination to ensure there were no injuries. They reported not experiencing any pain in the trapped area and proceeded towards the YIA terminal.
In response to the incident, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) emphasized the importance of passengers learning from the case and paying attention to the instructions given by train personnel. Passengers were also reminded to determine which side of the train door was designated for entry or exit.
KAI issued an apology for the incident, stating, "Once again, on behalf of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, we sincerely apologize and will continue to improve our services to prevent such incidents from recurring," said Franoto.
This incident serves as a reminder for passengers to exercise caution and prioritize safety when boarding trains. KAI is expected to enhance supervision and safety measures at train stations, including YIA, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
