Cape Town, 15 May 2023: “The ACDP doesn’t represent Christians” says Reverend Edwin Arrison, of the Anglican Church. The Anglican priest uttered these words outside South Africa’s parliament after a march to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba.

The Nakba or Catastrophe is commemorated annually on May 15 to remember the dispossession of Palestinians which coincided with the establishment of the State of Israel.

Arrison went on to criticise the ACDP (African Christian Democratic Party) by saying “They do not represent us. They represent some foreign government somewhere , some people who doesn’t understand Jesus, I don’t know what it is about, but let’s be clear, the church will always stand with those who suffer and in this moment we stand with the people of Palestine.”

The African Christian Democratic Party has contested elections since 1994 and currently has 4 members of Parliament out of a total of 400 and is led by Kenneth Meshoe.
