A hot-headed Thai driver has been arrested for allegedly stabbing an Indian national over a road rage argument in Thailand.

Cannabis seller Nonthawat Sritamart, 25, was driving along a road in Pattaya when his car was grazed by another vehicle on May 17.

He parked his car to confront the driver, Indian national Gulshan, 25, who also stopped on the roadside. However, the squabble quickly escalated into a punch-up.

When he found himself losing the fistfight to the brawnier driver, Nonthawat allegedly pulled out a knife from his pocket and jabbed it into Gulshan's side, shocking the man who collapsed to the ground with blood running down his wound.

Frantic bystanders intervened and called the Pattaya Police and medics, who arrived at the scene at around 9 pm.

Nonthawat was given first aid for multiple abrasions on his body and a laceration on his right hand before being detained. The pocket knife he used was also confiscated.

Gulshan was rushed to a hospital for a stab wound to his left side, just below his chest.

A witness told cops that both drivers were going in the same direction, but abruptly stopped their cars and fought on the road before the stabbing happened.

Nonthawat allegedly told police that he had tried to calmly discuss the damage to his car with the Indian national, but their argument turned heated. During the scuffle, he claimed that several items fell from his bag and were trampled on, causing him to become furious and stab Gulshan.

Nonthawat said: 'I was not losing the fight. I stabbed him with a knife I always carry because he was stepping on my belongings.'

Police Captain Chaowalit Suwanmanee of the Pattaya Police said: 'The Indian driver is still receiving treatment at the hospital. Investigators are gathering CCTV evidence to verify the Thai man's claims before we prosecute him.'
