An angry local lives in a homemade pirate ship outside the Portuguese parliament building.

Footage shows the pile of old wooden boat parts that have been reassembled across the street from the office guarded by armed police in Lisbon on May 20.

The structure has been adorned with flags, a sail painted with a red cross, and assorted marine equipment including a rubber ring and an orange life vest.

Posters are hanging on its side, giving information on the local's grievances. One poster reads: ‘I live here 2021-09-07', hinting that the issue had been ongoing for at least a year.

Walking around the DIY ship, more placards can be seen, with one that says in Portuguese: ‘The general direction for fisheries has to give me back my fishing licenses…'

One poster with words in French said: ‘All my life, I honoured the motherland…'

It was unclear why the resident was picketing with a pirate ship outside the government building.
