Wilson Evans an Irish business man and lifeboat enthusiast gifts a new Atlantic 85 to a Cornish seaside town, Newquay Cornwall UK
A generous financial gift from a prominent Irish business family has enabled the Royal National Lifeboat Institution to have a new B class inshore lifeboat. Donated by Sylvia and Wilson Evans of Greystones in Wicklow some 30kms from Dublin. The Atlantic 85 lifeboat is named after their Uncle Johnny who ran the Charlesland farm that passed down through two generations of the Wilson family and eventually became a major golf course. Wilson became involved with lifeboats when his mother took him aged 10 years to fundraising events for their local lifeboat. Gareth Horner the lifeboat operations manager at Newquay says the volunteer crew has enthusiastically embraced the new powerful craft, it has already been used on four emergency call outs. Crowds thrill as the new boat is named and launched to show its performance and agility.
