A horrifying stampede unfolded at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador, El Salvador, during the second leg of the quarter-final match between Alianza and FAS in the Clausura 2023 tournament on 20th May, 2023. Tragically, at least 12 people lost their lives, and over 100 others sustained injuries in the incident. The chaos ensued when numerous Alianza fans, armed with counterfeit tickets, attempted to enter the stadium without proper authorization. In their desperate bid to gain access, they forcefully knocked down a stadium gate, triggering a deadly stampede that resulted in the loss of innocent lives.

Eyewitnesses described the harrowing scene as men, women, and even children were carried on stretchers or in the arms of others across the pitch to receive emergency medical assistance.
