Cheeky Willie Wagtail steals croissant crumbs and cheese from my breakfast plate.

Willie Wagtails (Rhipidura leucophrys) are one of Australia’s most loved birds, always on the move, chattering and wagging their tails from side-to-side on landing. They are confiding and plucky, often approaching people and animals closely for food or to collect fur for their nests. We have a resident pair of Willie Wagtails that come to be fed mealworms on our back porch each morning, making their incessant chittering call and buzzing us until they are satisfied. However, this behaviour suddenly changed. After getting a few mealworms one of the Wagtails landed on my plate and began eating small fragments of a croissant and some melted cheese. Talk about cheeky!
