A drowning kitten that fell into a canal under a family's home was rescued by neighbours.

The feline wandered from a stilt house into the dirty water below in Bangkok, Thailand on March 27.

It cried until residents heard it so one of them jumped into the trash-filled deluge to scoop the creature up.

Footage shows a man wading on the knee-deep water. The flood becomes deeper as he walked along until he found the cat.

Resident Nutthanan Khunnutakom said: ‘The kitten was crying very loud. We felt sorry for it but the cat was not hurt fortunately.'

The creature was washed and cleaned up before it was fed.
