Climate activists from Ultima Generazione dyed Rome's Trevi Fountain black using charcoal to protest fossil campaigns, referencing the deadly floods in northern Italy connected to the climate crisis. Displaying banners such as "Our country is dying," they were arrested on vandalism charges. Lazio region councillor Luisa Regimenti denounced the act as "eco-vandalism," warning against endangering Rome's monuments. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri criticized these attacks on Rome's artistic heritage. Due to the incident, the fountain, holding 300,000 litres, will be drained, consuming substantial resources.
