Cars battled through flooded roads when torrential monsoon rains hit northeast Thailand on Tuesday.

Footage shows vehicles driving through the deluge submerging a road in Chaiyaphum province on May 23.

The raging storm also battered the Chaiyaphum Hospital, causing a carpark roof to collapse on 15 vehicles.

Officials said the gusts shattered a window on the hospital's sixth floor, and nurses had to evacuate patients, some of whom were injured from flying glass shards.

Hospital staff said that the Women's Internal Medicine Department and the Administrative Building suffered the brunt of the damage from the storm.

Thailand officially entered its rainy monsoon season on Monday, May 22, the Thai Meteorological Agency said.

The period sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
