Typhoon Mawar flooded a terminal at the Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport (GIAA) as it tore through Guam on Wednesday.

Footage shows inches of rainwater covering the floor of a hall at the airport in Tamuning and Barrigada on May 24.

Officials said the airport is expected to reopen on May 30.

GIAA Executive Manager John Quinata said: 'Our airfield fared well and is able to receive limited aircraft humanitarian and essential cargo operations. However, our terminal and passenger processing technical systems have been greatly affected by flooding on all floors of the terminal.'

Typhoon Mawar made landfall in Guam as a Category 4 storm said to be the strongest typhoon to hit the US territory in more than two decades.

It had flooded homes, flattened trees, knocked down power, and dumped over two feet of rain in the central and northern regions.

Despite its strength, authorities said Guam was 'very blessed' as the Mawar had passed without causing casualties.

It is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday evening.
