Superstitious locals visited a Thai mountain to admire an unusual rock formation said to be shaped like a 'Buddha palm.'

The bizarre boulder - which remarkably resembled an open hand with a distinct thumb, middle, and index fingers - sits on a cliff in the Wat Khao Nok Yung area of northern Sukhothai province.

Former village official Sudjai Kaewkla, 62, clarified that the rock formation looked like a peacock - 'Nok Yung' in Thai - when viewed from another angle, earning the location its name.

He claimed there were numerous peafowl in the area around 50 years ago, but the birds had disappeared due to human encroachment.

He said unconfirmed local folk legends told of numerous hidden treasures hidden away on Khao Nok Yung which were stolen during the Burmese invasion and during World War II.

Local media reported that a war scythe had been dug up in a cave on the mountain, which is now home to hundreds of macaques.
