Burning space debris streaks over homes in the Philippines
Residents were baffled by spectacular twin 'shooting stars' seen streaking over houses in the Philippines on Saturday.
The pair of glowing, comet-like objects with flashing 'heads' that flickered green and orange, and long tapering tails shot across the night sky in San Isidro town in Northern Samar province before dawn on May 27.
Locals across the province said they saw the bizarre phenomenon, but were unsure what the objects were.
Onlooker Raymart Corpez said: 'Was it a meteor shower or just falling debris? We saw it around 3 am. It's my first time seeing something like that here in our town.'
The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) said on May 25 that it was monitoring possible falling debris from the launch of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II launched on Thursday.
PhilSA said the debris were expected to fall in drop zones 400 nautical miles off the tip of northern Luzon island, and around 221 nautical miles off Suluan Island in Eastern Samar.
Last July, debris from China's Long March 5B rocket reportedly fell into Philippine waters southeast of Puerto Princesa island. The falling remnants were allegedly seen in Malaysia, and looked like shooting stars, local media reported.
