A bison herd caused heavy traffic in Yellowstone National Park.

Footage shows the large bovines taking their time to travel along the mountain road in Wyoming on May 9.

The creatures slowly walked together as a group in the middle of two lanes as cars were stalled behind them.

But after walking for a short while, the hoofed animals eventually moved to one side and gave way to the motorists.

Tourist Keith McCabe said: ‘Traffic jams are a little bit different in Yellowstone.'

Bison are one of the most iconic animals in Yellowstone National Park. The park is home to the largest free-roaming bison herd in the United States, with an estimated population of over 5,000 animals.
