This is the heart-stopping moment a distracted motorcycle rider bumped into a pick-up truck as she fidgeted on her phone while driving.

The female motorist - who was also not wearing a helmet - had her eyes on the gadget as she drove along Thepharak Road in Samut Prakan province, Thailand on May 28.

A taxi cab behind her slowed down to avoid an accident, but the careless woman then clipped a pick-up truck in the adjacent lane. Her motorcycle wobbled dangerously for a second after the collision, but did not fall over.

Both the truck driver and the woman were seen parking on the roadside to discuss the near-miss accident.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
