Farmers held a demonstration in support of India's protesting wrestlers who have accused the federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual assault. The rally took place in northern India's Uttar Pradesh on June 1.

Around 30 farmer bodies, including BKU (Lakhowal), BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), All India Kisan Sabha, Punjab, Krantikari Kisan Union, Kirti Kisan Union, Jamhuri Kisan Sabha, and Punjab Kisan Union joined the demonstration. organised by the coalition Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM).

Yesterday (May 31), the farmer leaders stopped Indian wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia from throwing their hard-earned medals into the Gange River. The group also submitted memorandums to deputy commissioners and magistrates asking for the women to be permitted to continue their sit-in protest at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

"We are submitting this memorandum to your high office to act expeditiously to protect the honour of the daughters of India and put an end to this sordid saga that has brought great shame to the nation and its people,” the document read.

Farmers held a demonstrations under the Samyukt Kisan Morcha in northern India's Punjab and Haryana as a show of support for the protesting Indian wrestlers who have accused Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual assault.

One of these demonstrations took place in the Muzaffarnagar district in northern India's Uttar Pradesh on June 1.

Visuals showed one such demonstration going on in full force. A lot of people had gathered at these demonstrations. A day ago, the farmer leaders had stopped the top Indian wrestlers - Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and also Bajrang Punia from immersing their hard-earned medals and awards into the Ganga river at Haridwar's Har ki Pauri. As per a report, memorandums were also submitted to deputy commissioners and magistrates by the farmers as they sought the arrest of WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

In a memorandum submitted to President Draupadi Murmu, the SKM called for the Indian wrestlers to be given permission to continue their sit-in protest at the Jantar Mantar after they were disallowed from doing so.
"We are submitting this memorandum to your high office to act expeditiously to protect the honour of daughters of India and put an end to this sordid saga that has brought great shame to the nation and her people,” the memorandum said.

Around 30 farmer bodies, including BKU (Lakhowal), BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), All India Kisan Sabha, Punjab, Krantikari Kisan Union, Kirti Kisan Union, Jamhuri Kisan Sabha and Punjab Kisan Union have taken part in this demonstration organised by the SKM.

Amritsar in northern India's Punjab saw protest outside the office of the deputy commissioner. An effigy of the Centre was burnt down in front of the mini-secretariat in Haryana. Anti-government slogans were also heard in Ambala.

Earlier on May 28, the protesting wrestlers were detained by the Delhi police as they were on their way towards the new parliament building for their planned women's 'Mahapanchayat'.
