Rescuers plunged into a storm drain to save a kitten that had become trapped inside in Thailand.

Kanrin Sahachartmanop, 30, was closing up her beauty clinic in Suphanburi province when she heard the poor kitten crying nearby on May 31 evening.

She used a flashlight to search the local area and discovered that the sounds were coming from a drain through which the feline had slipped.

The woman and her colleagues contacted the rescue team, which arrived at the scene at 8:20 PM.

The team removed the grates covering the hole and climbed down the dark, 7ft deep opening. Soon after, they found the trembling black kitten wailing loudly and lifted it up to safety.

Kanrin was overjoyed to see the baby animal safe and sound. She cradled it gently in her hands and wiped off the muck on its fur.

The cat lover said: 'A resident said they had contacted village authorities at 3 pm after hearing the kitten crying. However, no one came, and I was worried it would die if we left it alone so I called the rescue team for help.'

Kanrin has decided to adopt the cat, which she named 'Maruay' after their village.
