Thousands evacuated as road cracks and uplift strike in northern China
A section of the road surface in northern China experienced uplift and cracking, causing nearly 3,000 residents to flee.
The video was filmed in Tianjin City on May 31.
Mr Li, a resident said: "I didn't witness it personally, but I heard that around 6 pm, some people on the street heard a loud 'bang' resembling an explosion, and the road just burst open."
In response to the situation, the municipal and district authorities swiftly took action by establishing a dedicated task force. More than 20 departments, including emergency management, housing construction, planning resources, and urban management, mobilised more than 200 personnel to work on-site.
Their primary focus was on ensuring effective emergency response and prevention of secondary disasters. To safeguard the lives and property of the people to the maximum extent possible, approximately 2,900 residents from the affected buildings and surrounding areas were safely relocated in an orderly manner.
Officials from Jinnan District emphasized that the affected residents have been appropriately relocated and provided with necessary support.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
