Drone footage captured the aftermath of a train accident in eastern Indian state of Odisha, revealing the magnitude of the devastating incident that has killed at least 288 people.

According to reports, the Coromandel Express, which runs from Kolkata to Chennai, was going around 80mph when it hit a stationary freight train in Balasore at around 7pm on Friday, causing it to derail. Carriages from the freight train then struck two more from the Howrah Superfast Express train, travelling in the opposite direction.

In a Twitter update, Pradeep Jena, Chief Secretary of the region, said that over 200 ambulances were called to the scene on Friday. In addition to the 80 doctors already present, an additional 100 medical professionals were mobilized to provide assistance.

The death toll from the accident has surged to more than 300 now and around 1000 Injuries. This is one of the deadliest rail accident in decade.
