A cobra was caught hiding under a family's kitchen cabinet.

The snake slipped through the door that was left open while the residents were in the living room at a house in Chiang Rai province, Thailand, on April 25.

But as the creature knocked down containers, the family soon realised the snake had intruded on their home and began catching it together.

Footage shows one of the brothers using a bamboo stick with a makeshift noose as he lured the serpent out of the cabinet.

Resident Kaesunee Takaewwong said: ‘We just woke up and everyone didn't know what to do. We've only seen these things happen in the news.

‘My brother was quick to react and made a catching tool from the things we have outside.'

The family members stood behind Kaesunee's brother who poked through the cabinets and shelves so the snake would come out.

Soon after, it crawled out, appearing to attempt to sneak out of the open door before the brother caught its body secured in the noose.

The snake was turned over to local wildlife officers, who handled the creature's release.

Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras being the biggest killer.
