A troop of curious monkeys climbed on a woman while she was taking selfies outside a medieval temple.

The primates spotted the tourist and her friend sitting on the grass yard of Phra Prang Sam Yot temple, built in the 13th century in Lopburi province, Thailand, on May 16.

But the creatures wouldn't let her take a proper photo as she climbed all over her to sit on her head and hang on her shoulders.

Footage shows the monkeys jumping on her back and pulling her hair. The less rowdy macaques, which are apparently younger than the others, contented themselves on tinkering with her rubber shoes.

Tourist Hathaichanok Noppakao said: ‘They didn't hurt me. I think they were just being friendly, but they're so energetic.'

The Phra Prang Sam Yot temple was King Jayavarman VII of the Khmer Empire in the early 13th century. It is currently inhabited by wild monkeys and has become a popular tourist destination.
