A security guard used a stick to chase away a monitor lizard that tried to enter a factory.

Footage shows the worker holding the 6ft-long object and hitting it on the bushes where the reptile was hiding in Samut Prakan province, Thailand, on May 30.

He was aided by a black guard dog that barked at the creature to scare it off the property.

The lizard jumped back to the sewers, where it initially emerged to escape.

Factory worker Prem said: ‘I think the lizard would return again. That's why we keep a dog.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
