Smoke clouds billow from erupting Anak Krakatau volcano in Indonesia
Indonesia's Mount Anak Krakatau volcano erupted this afternoon (June 6) at approximately 14.34 local time.
The footage, which was filmed by Teuku Khalid Syah, shows white smoke clouds billowing from the erupting volcano.
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that volcanic ash was emitted up to a height of 500 meters above the summit.
According to the official report from PVMBG, the eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 46 mm and lasted for 80 seconds.
Authorities urged members of the public to remain cautious and stay within a 5-kilometre radius from the crater due to the height of the volcanic ash column which is raising concerns.
"This reminds us of the devastating eruption in 2018, which claimed hundreds of lives and caused extensive damage", said Syah.
